October - Month of the Rosary

October 7, 2026

Our Lady of the Rosary

The Church has dedicated October as the Month of the Holy Rosary, after Pope Leo XIII formally consecrated the month back in 1883 to encourage prayers for peace.

Centering on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary celebrated on the 7 October; the anniverary of the victory of the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, the Faithful are encouraged to embrace devotion to the Holy Rosary, to obtain grace and peace for the world, and victory over battles in all aspects of life.

Pope Leo XIV, during his recent trip to France, in his Angelus said:

"I invite all the faithful and all Christian communities to pray the holy rosary throughout the coming month of October, with the particular intention that wars may cease and that peace may be established among peoples in conflict. Let us accompany this prayer with concrete acts of penance and mercy, committing ourselves always to fostering dialogue and reconciliation. May our most holy Mother intercede for us!"

Today, and the same throughout history, the Church plays a critical role in obtaining peace for the world, but all Catholics have the responsibility to intercede with this powerful prayer, and especially during the month of October, for all areas of life that need God's grace and help through our Lady's intercession.

At St Mary Star of the Sea, the Holy Rosary is prayed publically on the following days:

Sundays | 30min before 10am Mass

Weekdays | 10min after 7am Mass & 30 min before 12:30pm Mass

Saturdays | Immediately after 10am Mass
